From 1986 to 1995 he worked commercially setting up a manufacturing company to produce his designs for children's indoor play facilities for which he continues to work as a freelance consultant.
In 1989 he moved to Mumbles with his partner Marian who was appointed Head of Briton Ferry Special School.
In 1996 he became involved with local environmental issues, particularly inappropriate local development plans, and the lack of vision and investment in the heritage and environs of the village.
